Only some Universal Express Passes at Universal Studios Japan include area entry to SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, and the number in the pass name tells you nothing about it. “Express Pass 4” means four attractions, not a tier — so one Express Pass 4 can include Mario Kart plus confirmed area entry while another Express Pass 4 at the same headline price includes neither. The reliable test is the ride list: if the pass includes Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge, Yoshi’s Adventure or Mine Cart Madness, it carries an area timed entry ticket for SUPER NINTENDO WORLD.
This guide explains the naming trap, sets out which current passes include area entry and which do not, and covers the part most buyers miss — an Express Pass is an add-on, not a park ticket.
What does the number in “Express Pass 4” actually mean?
The number is the count of attractions on the pass. It is not a quality tier, and it does not rank one product above another.
That is why two products can both be called “Universal Express Pass 4”, cost roughly the same, and give you completely different days. Each one is a separate product with its own fixed list of attractions, and the lists barely overlap.
Universal Studios Japan’s own Express Pass page states the position plainly: confirmed admission to popular areas such as SUPER NINTENDO WORLD comes with special Express Passes — not with all of them.
Which Express Pass 4 includes SUPER NINTENDO WORLD?
Below are the Express Pass 4 products listed on the Official Web Ticket Store, with the “from” price shown as of September 2026. Prices are inclusive of tax and vary by admission date, so the figure you pay for your own date will often be higher.
| Express Pass 4 product | From (as of September 2026) | SUPER NINTENDO WORLD area entry |
|---|---|---|
| Mine Cart & JAWS | ¥10,800 | Yes |
| Race & JAWS | ¥10,800 | Yes |
| Backdrop & The Flying Dinosaur | ¥10,800 | No |
| ~Thrill Max~ | ¥11,800 | No |
| Halloween Package: Factory of Fear | ¥11,800 | No |
| Halloween Package: Chainsaw Man: The Chaos 4-D | ¥11,800 | No |
| Halloween Package: Resident Evil Requiem: The Dive | ¥11,800 | No |
| Classic & Show | ¥13,800 | No |
| Resident Evil Requiem: The Dive | ¥13,800 | No |
| Resident Evil Requiem: The Dive & Hollywood Dream: Backdrop | ¥13,800 | No |
| Theater & The Flying Dinosaur | ¥14,800 | Yes |
| Minions & Theater | ¥14,800 | Yes |
| Race & Theater | ¥14,800 | Yes |
| Minion & Hollywood Dream The Ride | ¥14,800 | Yes |
| Minions & Race | ¥16,800 | Yes |
| Minecart & Jurassic Park | ¥16,800 | Yes |
| 4+1: One More Race & The Flying Dinosaur | ¥22,900 | Yes |
Look at the top three rows. As of September 2026 all three start at ¥10,800, and one of them leaves you outside SUPER NINTENDO WORLD. Further down, “Classic & Show” starts ¥3,000 higher than “Mine Cart & JAWS” and still includes no area entry.
That is the trap in one table: price does not signal whether Nintendo is included, and neither does the number 4.
How can you tell at a glance if a pass includes the area?
Read the attraction list, not the product name. On the Official Web Ticket Store, every Express Pass that lists one of the three SUPER NINTENDO WORLD rides also carries the “Includes Timed Entry Tickets” label and a note about area timed entry.
The three rides that act as the signal are:
- Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge
- Yoshi’s Adventure
- Mine Cart Madness (in the Donkey Kong Country expansion of the area)
Every pass in the current lineup that lists at least one of these also states that it includes timed entry to SUPER NINTENDO WORLD. Every pass that lists none of them — the Harry Potter, Hollywood Dream, Jurassic Park, JAWS and Halloween horror combinations — does not.
One caution: this pattern describes the lineup on sale as of September 2026. Products rotate with seasonal events, so check the attraction list on the product page for the date you are buying rather than assuming a name you read in an older guide still behaves the same way.
Which larger Express Passes include SUPER NINTENDO WORLD?
Above the 4-attraction level, area entry is much more consistent, because these passes nearly all bundle at least one Nintendo ride.
| Product | From (as of September 2026) | SUPER NINTENDO WORLD area entry |
|---|---|---|
| Express Pass 5: Adventure Special | ¥12,200 | Yes |
| Express Pass 5: Race & Minion Special (after Feb 1) | ¥14,700 | Yes |
| Express Pass 5: Race & Minecart Special (after Feb 1) | ¥18,900 | Yes |
| Express Pass 7: Minecart & Selection | ¥21,800 | Yes |
| Express Pass 8: Minion & Mine Cart Special (after Feb 1) | ¥23,900 | Yes |
| Express Pass 8: Mine Cart & The Flying Dinosaur Special | ¥25,900 | Yes |
| Express Pass Premium ~P29 | ¥41,000 | Yes |
| Express Pass Premium ~P30 | ¥44,000 | Yes |
| Express Pass ~Premium Unlimited~ | ¥99,000 | Yes |
The Premium products are described as covering all attractions and include area timed entry. They are also the most expensive way to solve the problem by a wide margin, as the September 2026 prices above show.
Do you still need a park ticket as well?
Yes. The Universal Express Pass page states “Separate theme park admission required”, and the Official Web Ticket Store repeats that an Express Pass “must be used together with a separate Studio Pass for admission”.
So your total is a Studio Pass plus an Express Pass. As of September 2026, the store lists a 1 Day Studio Pass from ¥8,400 for adults, a 1.5 Day Studio Pass from ¥13,600, and a 2 Day Studio Pass from ¥16,000, all inclusive of tax and varying by date.
Adding a ¥10,800 Express Pass 4 to a ¥8,400 1 Day Studio Pass therefore puts a single adult at roughly ¥19,200 before anything else, using the lowest listed figures for each as of September 2026.
Is an Express Pass the only way into SUPER NINTENDO WORLD?
No, and this matters if you are weighing the cost. Universal Studios Japan describes area tickets as conditional: “Depending on park attendance on the day of your visit, you may need an Area Timed Entry Ticket or an ‘Area Timed Entry Ticket: Advance Booking’ ticket to enter some areas.”
The park lists two routes to those tickets: in advance with certain Universal Express Passes or through select travel agencies, or through the official app after you enter the park. The Official Web Ticket Store adds a VIP Tour reservation as a further route.
The app route costs nothing extra, but it is not something you can lock in beforehand. Once the set number of Area Timed Entry Tickets has been issued, the park begins issuing Area Standby Entry Tickets, and it states that issuing “may stop or temporarily suspend” without notice depending on attendance. The store’s notice similarly warns that distribution “may end early depending on conditions on the day of visit”.
The park also notes that on some days entry is possible without any area ticket at all. So the honest framing is a trade: an Express Pass that includes area entry removes the uncertainty and adds shorter attraction queues, at a cost of roughly ¥10,800 and up per person as of September 2026.
Why you need working mobile data at USJ
Since 5 January 2026, the official Universal Studios Japan app is required to obtain Area Timed Entry Tickets and Standby Entry Tickets. The park states this directly on its SUPER NINTENDO WORLD page.
That has a practical consequence for overseas visitors. If you are relying on the free app route rather than an Express Pass, you need a working data connection on your phone inside a very crowded park, at the moment tickets are released — not later, back at the hotel on WiFi.
It is also worth installing and opening the app before your visit day, while you still have a stable connection, rather than downloading a large app on park WiFi in a queue.
Which pass should you choose?
There is no single right answer, but the decision usually comes down to three cases.
| If you… | Consider | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Mainly want Nintendo, on a budget | Express Pass 4: Mine Cart & JAWS or Race & JAWS | Cheapest listed Express Pass 4 options that include area entry, from ¥10,800 as of September 2026 |
| Want Nintendo plus Harry Potter and thrill rides | Express Pass 7 or 8 with a Mine Cart or Mario Kart listing | Covers several long-queue attractions in one purchase, from ¥21,800 as of September 2026 |
| Do not care about Nintendo | Express Pass 4 without Nintendo rides, or no Express Pass | You are not paying for area entry you will not use |
If your group includes children, check the height requirements before you buy. The store lists minimums of 122 cm or 132 cm on different Express Pass products, and it states that some Halloween and Resident Evil packages are not available to children aged 14 and under, or to junior high school students and below.
Frequently asked questions
Does every Universal Express Pass include SUPER NINTENDO WORLD?
No. Only the passes that include Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge, Yoshi’s Adventure or Mine Cart Madness state that they include timed entry to the area. Several Express Pass 4 products, including the Halloween and Resident Evil packages, do not.
Is a more expensive Express Pass more likely to include the area?
Not within the Express Pass 4 range. As of September 2026 the store lists Express Pass 4 products at ¥13,800 that include no area entry, and others from ¥10,800 that do. From Express Pass 5 upward, area entry is far more common.
Can I enter SUPER NINTENDO WORLD without an Express Pass?
Often, yes. You can try for an Area Timed Entry Ticket or Standby Entry Ticket through the official app after you enter the park, and on some days no area ticket is required at all. The park warns that distribution can be suspended or end early depending on attendance.
Does the Express Pass get me into the park?
No. Universal Studios Japan states that separate theme park admission is required, so you need a Studio Pass as well. Budget for both.
Does an area timed entry ticket mean I can ride Mario Kart?
Not by itself. Area entry and attraction access are different things, and the park notes that even after entering the area with an area ticket, attraction admission may be suspended or may already have ended. Express Passes that list Mario Kart include a time-designated slot for that ride specifically.
The short version
Ignore the number in the name and ignore the price. Open the product page, read the attraction list, and look for Mario Kart, Yoshi’s Adventure or Mine Cart Madness — that, plus the “Includes Timed Entry Tickets” label, is what tells you whether SUPER NINTENDO WORLD is part of what you are buying.
Then add a Studio Pass on top, and check the price for your specific admission date, because every figure in this article is a “from” price recorded in September 2026 and the park prices by date.
